The Badass Female Athlete Series Introduction

Presented before you are four badass women from Seacoast Athletics. They are by far not the only badass women at SA, but they are certainly badass by the GRIT + GRACE definition. Every day this week we will feature one woman’s story through a post and video interview. You will see them performing movements that they selected for how hard they were to learn, and also, at times, their body wasn’t able to do. They are proud to have you witness this accomplishment with them.

Steph tells the story of how her relationship changed with her body during and now after a pregnancy. “Even though I’ve always been an athlete, it took bringing a beautiful baby boy into the world to show me how awe-inspiring my body is. Now I want to show up differently for my body so it can continue to impress me as I raise my baby.”

Krista shares how a rare genetic condition has taught her how to adapt to her body’s ever-changing needs, particularly when sport-related injury comes into play. “Being in my body has been a perplexing experience. There’s not a lot of information out there medically let alone socially about my body. And I want to do more with my body than just keep it healthy. I want to push it to its strongest.”

Ellen has a beautiful story to share about navigating our complex medical system and numerous major surgeries to eventually arrive at a diagnosis that brings together years of seemingly-unrelated symptoms and gives her a more clear path towards feeling herself again. “My body has brought me to hell and back. Multiple times. And I’d do it again if I had to–especially for my children.”

And Lisa reflects on how decades of physical pursuits despite challenges with her lungs has given her even more grit to overcome the challenges of aging with strength and grace. “No one tells me what to do. Especially not my body. I have seen it all at this point and there’s nothing I’m afraid of. I fight every day so I can be there for my family.”

So get ready for them to take the stage this week as they share their stories of the highs and lows of managing major health changes, and the lessons learned along the way.
